The outstanding success of online member communities is the subject of the latest Nielsen//Netratings press release. The leading provider of internet research reveals that over half of the internet population visit member community sites every month.
The favoured member community site, Friends Reunited, attracts over 1.8 million visitors from the UK each month, with Blogger, bebo and MySpace also listed as popular brands. With over 57 million web pages on member community sites being viewed daily, there is clear growth in the trend for using the internet as a tool for social interaction and sharing experiences.
Alex Burmaster, European Internet Analyst at Nielsen//Netratings comments that these sites are very popular amongst the young: “The future of online to the young is about what the internet is best at – communicating and interacting.”
