What was your first job in Media?
Financial director of mid-size design agency (yes I used to be an accountant – Urgh.)
How did you begin working online?
Set-up an online media division of direct marketing agency in 1996 (and closed it in 1997 when we decided we didn’t have the technical skills)
What are the main responsibilities of your current role?
Business planning and development, day-to-day management of team, delivery of product.
What skills do you need to do your job?
Too many to mention here – but a great deal of patience, and being a good puzzle solver seriously helps.
What are the good things about working online?
The people, on-going learning, collaboration (unlike most other media I’ve worked in).
...and the bad?
Senior management from traditional media backgrounds and managing expectations
What advice would you give to someone trying to get into the industry?
Be positive, if you’ve got a good idea stick with it.
