Ian Eckert
Ian Eckert is an award-winning journalist and online publisher with more than decade’s experience in digital media. He specialises in the migration of traditional print businesses.

Ian recently returned to Abacus e-Media for a second stint as a Project Director working mainly with the company’s publishing clients.

Prior to this he ran the online business for TSL Education, the UK’s leading educational publisher. As Internet Director he developed the 2009 AOP award-winning TES Connect site that links teachers from across the UK through an innovative Web 2.0 platform.

Before joining TSL he was a main board director CMP Information in a digital development role designed to provide a strategic overview for the group's online activities and to champion best practice across the company. He also worked with the publishing teams across the business on the development of specific products and services including SearchMedica, the global vertical search platform.

Before his appointment at CMP, he spent five years as a project director and head of content and production at Abacus E-Media. Working for clients in the UK and US including Thomson Financial, The Builder Group, Wilmington Group, Centaur, Incisive Media and Financial News.

This followed four years at Portsmouth Publishing and Printing where he built up the new media team responsible for The News Online - winner of the New Media Age Award for Consumer Effectiveness and the Press Gazette Best Online Service. During this time he was also appointed assistant editor of The News, the south coast's top selling daily paper.

Ian started his career in the regional press on the south coast before editing Early Times, the national children's newspaper, and then moving into consumer magazines spending five years in IPC's TV Weeklies division.

He is currently Visiting Fellow in Online Journalism at Trinity and All Saints, University of Leeds.
