Editorial Team 2013 – Business to Business

Aimed at Editorial teams where the majority of publishing activity is within Business to Business content communities. The judges looked for evidence of the team’s enterprise, creativity and performance in achieving outstanding success for the site, or digital platforms and the value added to the overall business. There was no requirement that the editorial team should be working solely online.

Digital Advertising Sales Team 2013

This category was open to any sales team working online (but not necessarily solely online) within a publishing operation. Judges looked for proof of the team’s development and evidence of innovation, creative and commercial success in the judging year. Entries had to include testimonials from clients or agencies to demonstrate professionalism and excellent client relations.

Digital Advertising Operations Team 2013

Entries were invited from publishers, agencies and advertising networks in the UK who sell or buy online display advertising media. Calling attention to any industry standards that your team has contributed to and any industry bodies that your senior ops staff participate in. Entrants were strongly encouraged to include client and customer (including in-house customers) testimonials. Judges also wanted to see specific examples of ad ops leadership, innovation, and contribution to overall success. These  included the results of specific projects initiated by ad operations teams.

Digital Editorial Individual 2013

Aimed at individuals rather than publisher brands. This award rewards the individual contribution of online journalists, editors and community managers. Entrants were asked to include (or link to) examples of their work and publishing activity in the period, making clear how they measure success against objectives and including colleague / customer testimonials.

** New **One to Watch 2013– Individual

This new category recognises the emerging talent on which the future of the industry depends. It was open to anyone working in a digital role within publishing, under the age of 35 on 1 January 2013. Nominations were invited to recommend one person who deserves recognition for exceptional achievements within a publisher business or the wider industry. The judges created a shortlist based on both the entrants’ achievements to date and testimonials.  The final decision will be made by a public vote. Voting will take place in the two weeks leading up to the Awards dinner, with voting closing during the event itself.

**New **One to Watch 2013 - Business

The winner of this category will be the new business or service nominated by Publishers and initiated within the judging period. The judges short listed those entries that offer the greatest potential benefit to the online publishing industry in the future. The final decision will be made by a public vote which will take place in the two weeks leading up to the awards dinner, with voting closing during the awards event itself

Research and Insight Project 2013

Recognising the ever-growing importance of research for the digital media industry, this award reflects the best project including methodology, innovation, results against objectives and business impact. The award was only open to research commissioned or produced by online publishing companies, research and advertising agencies.

Cross-Media Project 2013

An integrated and coordinated fusion of media for a project or product was expected in this category. This meant a combination of video, mobile, print, or any other relevant medium. Judges looked at the integration and creation of original or reworked content whilst maintaining a strong brand identity, and why this combination of media made a significant difference to the brand. Special note was taken as to how video can operate across platform and enhance the brand impact.

Launch 2013

Open to products, services, apps or websites (no re-launches) that have gone live within the judging period. Entries needed to demonstrate use of excellent content, creativity, and marketing, within this limited time. This award reflects the best launch through evidence of its commercial viability, a clear understanding of the target market, and strong evidence of the business impact of the launch.

Recognising the achievements made within mobile and tablet arenas by digital publishing companies. Entrants needed to demonstrate how the brand fits into the medium, explaining specifically how it has added value, and what makes it accessible and suited to the mobile or tablet device. Judges considered entries from mobile websites, mobile and tablet/eReader apps and looked for commercial results demonstrating long term viability. Judges required entries to be viewable within the judging period and looked for evidence of ease of access and the unique benefits and satisfaction of users.

Commercial Partnership 2013

Entries were invited from digital publishers engaged in a commercial partnership with an advertiser or supplier aiming to promote and drive the advertiser’s brand forward or alternatively to develop new revenue streams for the media owner. Judging was  based on strategic vision, understanding of the market, and use of innovation and creativity. Judges also looked for evidence of success against objectives, such as: research, trading figures and financial results.

Technology Partner 2013

This award will be given to the best existing, new or improved third party technology provider that has demonstrated the most effective results driving digital publishers’ revenue forward. Judges looked for proof of enterprise and innovation, ability to create and/or increase revenue for publishers, and evidence of satisfaction from the end user, including publisher testimonials

Use of Social Media 2013

This award reflects the ever-growing importance of social media channels for publishers. Factors taken into consideration included growth in engagement, interaction, innovation and brand development. Companies had to present their social media work on one specific title or product per entry for this category. Commercial results of social activity were crucial in demonstrating success.
